Perhaps as a reaction to the fact that we live in a world where things are too easily thrown away, the design community is embracing the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi. The latter consists in repairing broken pottery with lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver or platinum. Meaning “golden joinery”, Kintsugi treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. The owners of iconic Argentinian restaurant in Paris, Anahi, used the technique to pay homage to the venue’s rich history.
